An awards-show appearance from Chappell Roan often comes with some surprises (last year’s Video Music Awards saw an unsheathed sword and shooting crossbow), but for her first time at the Grammys, it wasn’t the hennin on her head that caught our attention — it was her buttermilk-yellow notebook. Roan read from the notebook during her acceptance speech for Best New Artist, and soon after, a flurry of messages in the Strategist-staff Slack channel tried to answer the question: What notebook is that, exactly? “Looks Leuchtturmy to me,” replied senior editor Ailbhe Malone. (The combination of striped and solid ribbons and the color were all clues.) And while we initially narrowed it down to two — the Sketchnote Journal or the Medium Hardcover Notebook — a Leuchtturm representative officially confirmed to us today that it’s the latter. It comes in a color the company calls “vanilla” and an A5 format for note-taking.
