If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. We asked actress Katherine Heigl about the exfoliating face mitt, colorful cocktail glasses, and capsule-wardrobe-worthy cardigan she can’t live without.
Wooden Spoon Herbs has so many beautiful products that I love. But this one has been really helpful with easing anxiety, calming the mind, keeping focused. I typically just put it in water; it gives it a hint of flavor, but nothing that you would be disgusted by. I actually crave it. You can definitely put it in mocktails, cocktails. I have a favorite cocktail that is gin, sweet vermouth, a little cherry liqueur, and then, typically, orange bitters. But you could use this to give you that fancy feel.
I discovered this company when I started my online store, New Lane Road Mercantile. I love the bottles. They’re so pretty. These were so instrumental in sober October because I like making fancy mocktails, but I don’t wanna spend any more time than I would just making a regular cocktail. I don’t wanna be muddling and whatever. I really prefer grapefruit sparkling water, a couple drops of these, and maybe a shot of cranberry juice, and you’ve got yourself a lovely mocktail. And they’re really good for digestion and gut health.
In my 20s, I had IBS and this and that, and nobody ever had a solution. It’s that chicken-or-the-egg thing where, “Is the gut health causing this increase in anxiety, depression, and not being able to sleep well? Or is that causing the gut-health issue?” It’s a twofold issue, but for me, stress was just really wreaking havoc on my stomach and my digestion, and I just felt awful all the time. As you get older, you start to learn your individual blueprints better and better. Now, at 46, I know exactly when my digestion’s off and it’s making everything worse. I typically do a smoothie every day, so I throw this in and feel like everything’s running smoothly. Getting my gut under control has improved every other aspect of my life. Your skin’s better, your hair’s better, your health, your vitality. Your energy is better. I’m a huge supporter of this. I’m probably keeping her in business at this point.
I’m so obsessed with this. It has worked better than any blender I have ever had. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, just a button and a dial. It’s so bare-bones. It really gets the job done, and that’s all you need. I don’t need one to also juice; I just want it to blend. I bought it four years ago and it’s still awesome.
I have open shelves in my very neutral kitchen, and these add a pop of color. I’m a pastel-y kind of gal, so I love these. You know that old of idea of saving the good china for special occasions? I don’t use mine daily for dinners, but I do like using my nice glasses because it makes you feel pampered or something. And I’m a martini person. They’re a good addition to any bar.
I’m wearing them now. I have a bit of a shopping problem, so I thought, Okay, how can I make that work for me and feel better about it? This was one of those brands that I came across when I was doing my searching for sustainable, ecofriendly, gives-back-in-some-way-or-another brands. I’m a big socks person. I mean, I live in Utah. It’s cold probably nine months out of the year. So I buy these. Once a year I’ll replace them, because I wear them constantly and wash them constantly, and buy another couple of sets to give to friends and family. They’re so cozy. They’re not scratchy — I have a thing about that. I think they’re so cute. I love wearing them over leggings with slippers. I think it’s kind of a look.
These are the best. My husband bought me a pair one year for Christmas and I was like, What’s up with these? Why are they so soft? I love cozy, soft things that feel good against your skin and wash well. I’ve bought other leggings that are great, but they don’t hold up wash after wash, and that drives me nuts. You want it to be utilitarian enough that you can use it all the time. So these are the ones that I’ve found that tick all those boxes for me. They don’t fray or get that weird thread. The pocket is the perfect size for your phone and maybe your AirPods. I wear them for whatever I’m doing. I wear them to work too, but then I have to take them off for wardrobe — sad.
They have so many beautiful, elegant pieces. I can’t do the capsule wardrobe. I would love to be that person, but I’m not. But if I had a capsule wardrobe, this would be one of those staples that you can mix and match with so many different looks. Again, I’m in Utah, so it’s great to add that layer and then be able to take it off when you’re inside and they’re overheating everything. It fits so beautifully and looks great no matter what you’re wearing it with. Whether it’s jeans or leggings or a mid-length skirt. You can even kind of tuck it into higher-waisted jeans and it looks really great. It’s one of those pieces I can’t live without.
Here in Utah, it’s been instrumental. I can’t moisturize enough because it’s so dry here, and at this altitude, all the moisture is sucked out of you all the time. I’ll use this throughout the day if I’m starting to feel really tight and dry. There’s something very soothing to me about its scent, it puts me in a head space of calm. It mists really beautifully and feels very indulgent. I’ll wash my face, and while it’s still kind of damp I’ll use it and then start layering everything on top of it. I don’t wear makeup when I’m home, so I’ll just spray it on over whatever moisturizer I have on, though you can spray it over makeup. It’s not gonna wreck your makeup application, just reinvigorate.
My skin’s super sensitive, so a lot of exfoliators will make me really red and rashy. This is weirdly gentle enough but gets the job done. I use it every day in the shower. You don’t put cleansers or anything on it; you just use it on clean, wet skin. Be a little careful: You can definitely, like, rub yourself raw. It’s amazing to pack when you don’t wanna bring your entire arsenal, just a few things that you know will work. I will bring this and the body and back one as well. I had a back-scrub brush for a while, but it was just not as effective.
This was a TikTok treat. It popped up on my feed and I was like, Ooh, I love everything about this brand. I love their mission. I love that it’s cruelty-free and incorporating skin health into the makeup. I’ve gotten to an age where, if it feels like thick, heavy makeup, it just bothers me all day. This tinted SPF has been unbelievable. So many either feel too greasy, they smell like sunscreen, or they slide around. It just doesn’t feel good. This feels so good and covers. It has the perfect balance.
For anybody out there who loves to be creative, loves to be artsy, these papers make that so fun. It’s like being artistic without having to draw or paint or do anything. You rip up these papers, write some beautiful words or journal, and throw them in with a cool photo, and you’ve got yourself an art journal. I’d only use them for art projects or the projects that are sacred to you. I’ve become kind of an artist in my older age and I do a lot of paintings. So I’ve been using these papers for collage elements in my paintings.
I’m a little biased, but I believe it’s the best. I have six dogs, but I’ve had upwards of nine at a time. Pet nutrition is a huge part of my everyday because I have so many furry babies and keeping them healthy, knowing what to feed them, and all that has been a journey. I have two Rottweilers, which we rescued as puppies after they were dumped at the shelter with parvo, which is a really devastating dog disease. I started feeding them Badlands as soon as they were old enough to be able to eat it. We added the gut powder, too, and I would say we saw a serious improvement in like two months. So I’m pretty passionate about the food and its ability to work some serious wonders. I’ve watched it in my own home. We don’t test on animals, we test on our own animals. The bags are expensive, I’m not gonna lie. We are coming up with a lower-cost version. But you don’t have to only feed them that, just use it as a topper.
