What Rachel Bilson Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. We asked actress Rachel Bilson — who recently partnered with SimpliSafe — about the lip balm, face cream, and ear cleaners she can’t live without.

I’ve loved Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers since junior high school. And they actually don’t even make them anymore. When it was announced that they were going to be discontinued, it was near my birthday. So I said that if anyone wants to get me anything, track down Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers and buy me as many as you can. Now I have a drawerful of them, and I’m like, will this last me the rest of my life? I sure hope so.

I just love Goop. I feel like if Gwyneth stands behind it, it has to be good for you. It’s thick, and I have dry skin, so I’ve been using it for years now, and it’s my favorite cream. I’ll use it every day when it’s not summertime, because I use the SPF in the summer, but otherwise I’ll put it on every morning. If you sign up with an email, they’ll do deals where you can get it at a better price. But that means that you can’t go into the store and just buy it, so it’s a little harder. You have to time it correctly. I’m actually almost out, and I’m like, oh no, because I didn’t time it right and it’ll take a few days to get here.

I use the Q-tip brand itself, the ones in the big blue plastic box. I swear by them. I’ll stash them in my purse if I’m going out and I’ve done my makeup, because I always like to clean up under my eyes, as makeup tends to fall on me sometimes. So I like having Q-tips on hand if I’m going to an event. And right when I get out of the shower, the first thing I’ll do is clean my ears. It’s my favorite thing. You’re not supposed to stick them too far, so I’m very careful.

I love Dr. Bronner’s so much. I use all of its products. My daughter will wash her body with the soap, and I’ll use the coconut oil as a hair mask. I try to do it maybe twice a month if I can; I’ll put it on my hair and leave it for as long as possible before I wash it. And I like all the text on the labels — it’s a fun distraction to have in any bathroom.

If I wear makeup or I have to go somewhere, I love a setting spray, and I’ve found Charlotte Tilbury makes the best one. Because my skin is so dry, it really helps the foundation or powder or really any makeup stay on. It’s the final touch I always need. I used it yesterday because I had to go to an event for my friend Nicole’s jewelry collaboration. I put it on right before I walked out of the house, and everything stayed on.

My skin is so sensitive. Finding a sunscreen that works with my skin, where I don’t break out or react, that’s been hard to do in the past. I know Sun Drops is pretty pricey, but you don’t have to use much. And my face feels so protected. I had a lot of sun time last summer — beach vacations, lake vacations — and honestly, I don’t even think I got a new freckle.

I was thrilled to partner with SimpliSafe — I have been a victim of burglaries in the past, so this was a perfect, natural fit for me. It has professional installers come and put the camera up, and we put it in a place where I can see who approaches my gate. And it’s really nice, because I’ll get a notification if there’s any movement, so I can see who’s there. If it’s a delivery, or if it’s someone buzzing in, I can actually see who it is. And the company also has agents monitoring it who are available 24/7, so if there is anything happening that’s alarming or out of the ordinary, they can talk through the camera to whoever it is.
