This project does not imply that NAACP_LDF endorses the Strategist or eBay.
This month, eBay, in partnership with the Strategist, went back to some of our favorite celebrity shoppers — including actor and director Tommy Chong — to ask them about things that they can live without and would be willing to sell at auction for charity. All proceeds will go to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (eBay is receiving and donating all proceeds and matching every dollar the auction earns). I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m heavily connected to the spiritual world, and this sweatshirt gives a really strong vibe. It showed up in the mail about a year or two ago when I was recovering from cancer. A fan sent it — they send me stuff all the time — and because I’m a bit of a hoarder, I keep everything that’s given to me. I have a lot of stuff; I kept my wardrobes from Up in Smoke and That ’70s Show, but this sweatshirt is the weirdest, most unique thing I’ve ever had. While there’s not much more of a story behind it, it’s magical because of its vibe.
The design is kind of subtle, and the graphic text, “Chommy Tong,” is a play on my name. That didn’t occur to me until very recently. I love that you have to look at it to figure out what it really says — I like things that make you want to work. While I’ve never worn it, I have tried on the sweatshirt and it feels good. There isn’t another one like it, it’s a one-of-a-kind, one-and-done item. Whoever wins it will recognize its magic, and it will find its rightful new home.
The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
