If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. We asked actor Anna Kendrick — who recently did a partnership with Keurig —about the quiet hair dryer, sophisticated candle, and dish soap she can’t live without.
I like to keep blankets around the house, especially if I have a friend over. You can’t be at my house for more than 30 seconds before I offer you a blanket. I’ve become quite the curator of blankets, and I really love my UGG throw. It’s a great weight. It’s lightweight, so you won’t sweat, yet substantial at the same time. The fuzz level is also perfect. It feels really cozy, but it doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart or fuzz is going to get in your mouth.
These are my two favorite sunscreens. The Josie Maran is for my body, and the Mesoprotech is for my face. They both have zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — ingredients that my dermatologist told me to look for. (Obviously, I did not know anything about these ingredients before he told me about them.) Both are tinted, and for someone as pale as me, it’s actually kind of nice. It makes me look like I have a little life in my face. They blend out really nicely and even out my skin tone. Weirdly, I get way more compliments on my skin when I’m wearing these.
I think I have a sensory problem with the sound of hair dryers. It just bothers me so much. I love how quiet the Dyson is. It also dries my hair very fast. My hair texture is really challenging, so if I want to look presentable, I have to give myself a blowout. I want to make it as quick and painless as possible, and this lets me do it efficiently.
A friend of mine told me that these were good for your hair and nails, so I started taking them a couple years ago. I think, truthfully, there are actually more health benefits, like for your joints and such. But, I’ve found there’s a gamification of the way I take them, because I did notice my nails becoming longer and stronger. I wouldn’t remember to take these otherwise, so it’s nice to have a physical manifestation of the supplement doing something.
I have a lot of favorite candle brands, but I really like Luminose’s Accidental Crush at the moment. I’ve been burning it a lot lately. It comes in a really interesting textured candle holder as opposed to a plain glass one, and the smell is just intoxicating. It’s almost like if you took your favorite high-school Bath & Body Works scent but made it really sophisticated and elevated.
This is cliché, but I hate doing the dishes. I think I hate them even more than the normal person. To try to make the chore less daunting, I started buying Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap and trying their different scents. Switching it up becomes more of a treat. They do seasonal ones, so I’ve tried the fall scents, and I really love the lavender.
Years ago, I was in Los Olivos and stumbled in this store and did an olive oil tasting. The whole area is like that — you can sort of walk around and do different wine and food tastings — but I thought the olive oil tasting was fun and pretty unique. Now, whenever I have company over, I pick up a baguette, cut it up, and serve different flavored olive oils. Olive Hill Farm has a ton of great flavors, but their basil has been my favorite for forever.
I start my morning with a coffee. Over the last few years, I’ve found myself more and more of an iced coffee girl. Usually I’d have to run out to get it, especially if I wanted something flavored or interesting. I got this, and it’s so much easier to just make it in my own kitchen. Honestly, any excuse to stay at home is great for me. I really appreciate being able to have my mocha frappe straight out of my kitchen.
