Editor’s note: Amazon’s October Prime Day has officially started, so we’re no longer updating this post. For our most up-to-date coverage of the sale, check out our roundup of the best October Prime Day deals and sign up for our email newsletter.
Amazon’s October Prime Day is returning tomorrow on Tuesday, October 8, through Wednesday, October 9, but as usual, there are already tons of deals live. I’ve spent the past few weeks looking through these early Prime Day deals and rounding up the best of them. A lot are not good — whether because their prices will mostly get better tomorrow or because they’re random products — but there are a handful that I think are worth buying early.
Those worth-it early deals include Amazon’s own tech devices, which are generally the first items to go on sale during these events and stay on sale through the end. Others include some of our favorite teeth-whitening strips for over half off and our best-in-class coffee-maker for just $100. And since toys are such a huge portion of the deals on October Prime Day, senior writer Liza Corsillo has put together a roundup of the best early toy deals.
Amazon is flagging items in its deals section as a “limited time deal” or “Prime early deal” (and some simply say “with Prime”). Since everything under these labels could be considered an early Prime Day deal, I’ve mostly stuck to Strategist-approved items that are marked down for extra-good prices.
If you want intel on how to shop the sale, I’ve written out my best October Prime Day tips and tricks. Take a look, and be sure to come back tomorrow when the sale starts for the very best deals, as curated by me and my colleagues. And to make sure you don’t miss a single deal, sign up for the Strategist newsletter.
Every Prime Day, the best men’s fashion deals are on underwear multipacks. One such deal is already live — this set of seven Calvin Klein boxer briefs for just over $6 apiece.
Plenty of cordless vacuums and robot vacuums will be on sale tomorrow. If you’re in the market for something a bit smaller, this Strategist-approved handheld vacuum is $50 off when you buy it in the sleek rose-gold colorway.
At just $300, I sincerely doubt that this Dyson vacuum will get any cheaper next week — and for this price it may very well sell out, so I’d get it now if you want it.
I purchased this best-in-class coffee maker when it was on sale for $114 during July’s Prime Day. Now it’s even cheaper at just $100.
You can usually count on finding a bunch of electric toothbrushes on sale for Prime Day, and I’ve already spotted a few from Oral-B, a brand we constantly recommend, for at least 40 percent off.
This slightly more splurgy toothbrush is even more discounted. It connects to your phone to give you personal coaching while brushing.
Crest’s teeth-whitening strips are always a good Prime Day buy, and they’re usually 35 percent off during the sale — which is what they’re discounted to now, so might as well buy them early!
The version for sensitive teeth is an especially great deal at 50 percent off right now.
Some of the best early deals are on Amazon’s own devices. So far, the most worth-it items look to be the Fire HD tablets. This is the cheapest I’ve ever seen this model get.
If October Prime Day is anything like the last two years, there will be lots of gifts, especially toys, on sale. The kids’ Fire tablet is already 50 percent off if you’re gift shopping extra early.
This little smart plug was a Strategist best seller in July. It’s on sale for the same price as it was then, so I don’t think it will get cheaper next week.
I purchased this Kindle last October Prime Day. It was 35 percent off, and I assume the discount will be the same this year. Since the price difference is only $5, you can definitely buy now if you don’t want to wait.
Another Amazon deal: This HD TV that can connect to all your Alexa devices is 35 percent off again, just like it was pre–October Prime Day last year. I don’t usually see TVs go on sale outside the Black Friday and Prime Day windows, so now’s a good time to get an inexpensive one while it’s in stock. (And if you skipped buying one during dorm-shopping season, it’d make a nice gift.)
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this Marie Kondo–approved air purifier for under $200.
Bissell’s Little Green carpet cleaner is always a best seller with our readers during Prime Day. This heavy-duty version is already about 30 percent off and unlikely to get any cheaper during the sale.
Green Toys are a Strategist staffer and reader favorite. Senior writer Liza Corsillo, who’s our expert on kids’ toy, says this is a good deal on the brand’s submarine bath toy, and if Liza says it’s worth it, it’s worth it. You can find more of her favorite early toy deals for October Prime Day here.
This is a really good deal on Inaba’s “cat Go-Gurt.” (Both my vet and my cat love these. For different reasons, of course.)
What I predict will be on sale for October Prime Day
Like they do every year, I anticipate many Strategist best sellers, like Laneige’s lip balm, to go on sale again. I’m also hoping Malin+Goetz will offer some deals — I purchased one of its perfumes for 20 percent off last July and wear it all the time. There are also usually a lot of toys from Melissa & Doug, household essentials like trash bags and toilet paper, and a cache of wellness-related items that are discounted during Prime Day.
The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
