Jevon Thomas, the thirteenth-ranked point guard in the class of 2012, has verbally committed to St. John’s, picking the school over Villanova, Pittsburgh, and Georgia Tech. So to recap: St. John’s was picked by conference coaches to finish a respectable sixth in this Big East this year, Steve Lavin’s putting together a strong 2011 recruiting class (which includes Jamaica native Maurice Harkless), and now he’s got a point guard from Rosedale for 2012 who calls St. John’s his “dream school,” explaining that “[t]he buzz is back and I wanted to be a part of that.” The 2010-11 season opener, by the way, is less than three weeks away.
