A day after finishing atop this blog’s Better Know a Knick countdown, Amar’e Stoudemire (plus the rest of the new-look Knicks) began the 2010-11 season with a victory on Opening Night in Toronto. So to recap: The Knicks are undefeated, and the Heat are not. Take that, LeBron! Meanwhile, Carmelo Anthony remained a Nugget, surely to the delight of Bradford Doolittle of Basketball Prospectus (who thinks he’s overrated) and Bethlehem Shoals of Free Darko (who says he gets depressed just thinking about trading Anthony Randolph and Danilo Gallinari). But what happened this week that didn’t involve the Knicks being over .500 for the first time since November of 2008?
The week after their season ended in Texas, the Yankees announced that Dave Eliand wouldn’t be back, and that Joe Girardi would be.
The Mets hired Sandy Alderson to be their new general manager.
The football Giants shattered the Cowboys’ Super Bowl dreams, and also Tony Romo’s collarbone.
St. John’s scored a commitment from another top Queens recruit.
The (New York) Rangers beat the Devils for their third-straight win, then fell to Atlanta.
The (Texas) Rangers lost the first two games of the World Series.
And we talked to Dan Lauria about playing Vince Lombardi.
That’s it for us. Have a nice weekend.
