The Week the Yankees Secured a Playoff Berth

Two days after walking off against the Red Sox, and one day after A.J. Burnett turned in another ugly outing in Toronto, the Yankees finally clinched a playoff berth on Tuesday night. And remarkably, despite losing six of their last eight, they enter the season’s final weekend tied with Tampa Bay in the A.L. East, though a tie at season’s end won’t do them any good. But what happened this week that didn’t involve hats that read “PLAYOFFS”?

The Jets beat the Dolphins. Next up: the Bills.

The Giants lost to the Titans. Next up: the Bears.

Carmelo Anthony was not traded to the Nets, but perhaps the Knicks have a chance?

The Jerry Manuel employment clock ticked down.

After Wade Redden was assigned to Hartford, we spoke to Brian Leetch about the move, then tried to pick the next MSG whipping boy.

Our Better Know a Knick series continued with Roger Mason Jr. (No. 9) and Toney Douglas (No. 8).

We spoke to Ken Burns about The Tenth Inning.

And we spoke to Alex Belth about Lasting Yankee Stadium Memories.

That’s it for us. Have a nice weekend.
