Senate Democrats and their health-care bill have yet another opponent: states that have already taken the initiative to expand health care. New Jersey, California, Arizona, and Wisconsin have joined New York in calling shenanigans on the bill. Their argument is that the overhaul penalizes them by expanding Medicaid, which is paid for both by states and the federal government. Those more progressive states will have to help foot the bill for other states that haven’t expanded health-care coverage themselves. This way, everyone will be able to go to the hospital but states won’t have enough money to make sure there are roads to get them there.
