A man died after an incident at Scott May’s Daredevil Stunt Show in southeast London went awry. The unidentified “human cannonball” stuntman died after a safety net failed to engage. The stunt show features monster trucks, fire stunts, and car crashes, and has been touring since 1991. And yet! Despite the death and multiple injuries from cannonball stunts, cannon stuntmen swear by their work. Said David Smith Jr. who holds the Guinness Book of World Records entry for longest distance shot from a cannon (59.05 meters): “I feel that my cannon shots are probably safer than me driving to the next show—because I control my environment and I control my equipment.” [CNN]
