Tantika Tivorat & Mark Jacobson
The New Museum
October 27, 2012
Four years ago, Tantika Tivorat, 30, and Mark Jacobson, 29, met through a friend over dim sum in Chinatown. “One of my girlfriends was dating Mark’s friend,” says Tantika, a graphic designer. “Mark showed up 30 minutes late wearing a leopard-print belt, but even then, I knew he was the one.” A week later, Mark, a corporate-development director, asked Tantika out on a date to the American Museum of Natural History, where he volunteers. “I’d never been there,” says Tantika. “He put his hand on my back as we were walking around. It was very sweet.” Mark proposed three years later on a snow-dusted path in Washington Square Park, and the couple married at the New Museum, one of their early date spots (a traditional Thai wedding followed a month later in Bangkok, where Tantika has family). As part of their vows, Mark promised to bring Tantika a glass of water every night before bed, and Tantika pledged to squeeze the toothpaste tube from the bottom. They kicked off the reception dancing the tango in front of 100 guests. “I wish I could relive that night,” says Tantika.“I’ve never smiled so much.”
