New Orleans natives Mandy Daly, 32, and Mallory Masson, 25, first met in 2007 while working at a Louisiana hospital. “I developed the biggest crush on her,” says Mandy, a physical therapist, “but she thought I was straight.” One night after a few margaritas, Mandy confessed her feelings. “I was shocked,” says Mallory, “but it grew from there.” Five years later, the two were engaged and had a baby on the way. “We considered all the states where same-sex marriage is legal, and neither one of us had been to New York, so it was a no-brainer,” says Mallory, a personal trainer. The couple exchanged vows at the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park in front of twelve family members. “Originally, we planned a City Hall wedding, but once I found my dress, we knew we needed a more picturesque venue,” says Mandy. After the ceremony, a New Orleans–style brass band led the way down Central Park West, with the newlyweds and their guests dancing the eight blocks to the reception at Leopard at des Artistes. “People on the street were congratulating us and honking horns,” says Mandy. “It was perfect.”
