BP is extremely reluctant to release the footage they have of their catastrophic underwater gas leak, probably because yet another visual of exactly how badly the Gulf of Mexico is being polluted (and how fast!) is the last thing they need. And according to Robert Gibbs, the U.S. government can’t compel them to release it. But the oil and natural gas company did release this photo today, the only public visual documentation of exactly what it looks like when 210,000 gallons of oil a day (4 million gallons so far!) shoot out of a broken pipe at the bottom of the sea floor. It seems like BP is probably right not to release more — crude oil in motion does look a little bit like evil.
