The FBI has arrested Farooque Ahmed, a 34-year-old American citizen born in Pakistan, for plotting to set off explosives across the Washington Metro system. The authorities had been alerted to Ahmed’s intentions after he sought to “obtain unspecified materials,” which means “things that can explode.” They monitored him for some time and say an attack was never imminent. Ahmed, who graduated from CUNY with a degree in computer science, has a child and a wife who organizes a local group called “Hip Muslim Moms.” [WP]
