New York congressman Chris Lee — who resigned today after being caught trolling for extramarital sex online — knows the Internet is a scary place. In fact, he wrote a 2009 editorial for The Tonawanda News lauding legislation he helped pass that warned kids about online dangers. Lee championed the Student Internet Safety Act, which aimed to “educate students about appropriate online behavior, protect them from online predators and promote the involvement of parents in Internet usage” — all lessons Lee perhaps should have taken to heart.
The ironic revelation comes at the end of a tumultuous day for Lee: In just three hours his personal life and political career came to a grinding halt. So much for that hacker story.
