Back in August, Randi Zuckerberg, Mark Zuckerberg’s 29-year-old sister, quit her job as Facebook’s marketing director to “build a company focused on the exciting trends under way in the media industry.” At the time, many observers speculated that her departure meant she was ready to more publicly embrace the performative side she displayed with some of her Facebook projects, including the Emmy-nominated online news show Facebook Live, which she created and hosted. A new Times profile of her, which begins with a scene at midtown karaoke joint Japas 38, certainly seems to confirm that theory:
“Who wants a tequila shot?” Randi Zuckerberg shouted over the thump of “Baby One More Time,” Britney Spears’s breakup anthem.
Of course, extroversion aside, Randi’s still a Zuckerberg: She’s currently hard at work on her promised business venture, R to Z Media. Other goals include philanthropy, starting her own talk show, and possibly investing in a Broadway production — provided she be given a small part. As she put it, “I am going to appreciate every last moment of awesomeness I can get.” If we had as many Facebook stock options as she does, that’s certainly what we’d do.
