After a court decided in favor of a group of Long Island manicurists who sued the owners of the chain of salons that employed them, there’s a movement afoot among the city’s salon workers, many of whom are immigrants, to organize for better treatment and pay. In the case of the Long Island group, the women were making far less than minimum wage and worked more than 40 hours a week without the overtime they were owed.
