For those craving a second scary subway story today: Service on the C line has been temporarily suspended because an A train lost a wheel and wandered off the track as it passed through the West 81st station this morning. There were no injuries, though the 400-or-so people onboard had to be evacuated via a “rescue train,” which seems to have been a regular train that was backed up until it connected with the front of the less useful train. The passengers were then brought to Columbus Circle station, which was likely jammed full of last-minute Christmas shoppers eager to soothe their frazzled, post-subway accident nerves.
