The New York Daily News reports that 86-year-old Jack Calvello, who had called 911 to confess to shooting his 65-year-old daughter, Carol Ann Matyka, and the family’s Yorkshire terrier, pointed a double-barreled shotgun at NYPD officers when they arrived at his Astoria home. “They said ‘Drop it, drop it!’ loud, and he doesn’t, so then we heard two shots, and he falls back into the doorway,” said a neighbor who witnessed the incident. Update: Matyka, who suffered a head wound, was taken to the hospital, where she died several hours later.
