Patagonia’s Black Hole mini hip pack exudes retro ’90s-dad-at-the-airport charm while also being comfortable to wear and thoughtfully designed to fit life’s three big essentials: phone, wallet, keys. It’s on sale across the internet right now for more than 50 percent off, which makes the price kind of retro too.

On the Patagonia website, two colorways (thermal blue and patchwork pine needle green) are discounted by 54 percent, bringing their price down to $17 from the original $35. There are a few other bright and cheerful options on sale for $21, including a really pretty mauve. And for all the minimalists out there, I did find an all-black mini hip pack on sale at REI for $24. At $11 cheaper than full price, that’s still a great deal.

We’ve been writing about and recommending this fanny pack (which we think is one of the best things to buy at Patagonia) for years. Podcast host Sam Sanders counts it as one of his favorite things, mainly thanks to its just-big-enough size. “It fits ergonomically on my body, and it’s cute,” Sanders told us. He also makes a good point: “I get compliments on this thing — I never got compliments on my cell phone and thick-ass wallet poking in my back pocket.”

The Strategist is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Every product is independently selected by our team of editors, whom you can read about here. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
