Our Deputy Editor’s Everyday Keds Are Just $34

If you, too, are eager to put away the winter boots in favor of fresh white sneakers for spring, might we recommend some Keds? Specifically the Pro-Keds Royal High Lace Ups, which New York deputy editor Alexis Swerdloff wears nearly every day. “They are just a classic canvas high-top that aren’t Converse, which I find to be so uncomfortable,” she says. “These are actually supremely comfy.” They have a gum-rubber outsole that offers plenty of traction and a molded-foam footbed for added arch support, and the blue-and-red side stripes give them a slightly vintage look. “When I wear them, I feel sort of elegant slash also like a 7-year-old boy from the 1950s,” Swerdloff says. The shoes are over 50 percent off at Zappos right now, making them just $34 — a very good price for classic white sneakers. They’re unisex, so they’re only available in sizes 9 through 15 for women (sizes 7 through 14 for men), but the leather version of the shoes has women’s sizes 5 to 15 available and is on sale for just $4 more. And if high-tops aren’t your style, several other Pro-Keds styles are on sale, too.
