This project does not imply that NAACP_LDF endorses the Strategist or eBay.
This month, eBay, in partnership with the Strategist, went back to some of our favorite celebrity shoppers — including singer and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne — to ask them about things that they can live without and would be willing to sell at auction for charity. All proceeds will go to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (eBay is receiving and donating all proceeds and matching every dollar the auction earns). About five or six years ago — before I was on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills — I created a limited-edition, 120-page coffee-table book with the photographer Marco Bollinger. The book was a gift to thank those who started the Erika Jayne project with me and remind them of all the great shit we did together. Basically, if you were featured in it, you got it, but that’s it — I only had 100 made, and I kept ten for myself. This copy is from my private collection.
It’s very personal, with lots of intimate photographs, some of which the public hasn’t seen before. Marco and I worked very closely documenting my life on the road at the start of Erika Jayne. We never stopped capturing moments, which resulted in tens of thousands of photographs. It took us six to nine months to go through the archives and choose the ones we wanted for the book. Inside there’s a mix — from album art to promotional photos to behind-the-scenes photos from rehearsals to shots in the glam room to shots during sound-checks to photos of intimate moments like prayer circles before shows to actual performances in Miami, New York City, and San Diego to stills from music videos to pictures of me at San Francisco Pride to handwritten notes describing where I was and what was going on.
All of it brings a smile to my face because it’s a lot of hard work realized. But the part of the book I’m most proud of is the final page, which features my very first headshots taken at a studio in my hometown of Atlanta when I was 3 years old. Not many have seen those photos before.
