What Christina Ricci Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. We asked Christina Ricci — who recently collaborated with West Elm on a collection of accessories inspired by her new tarot deck — about the platform sneakers, black tank tops, and exfoliator she can’t live without.

I’ve been using this since I was 13 years old. My mother and my sister also use it. Basically, I have combination hair. I have straight and curly hair, and I have to find something that sort of meets in the middle. Sebastian is the leave-in that I put in after the shower. It makes your hair kind of dry and a little stiff, and then you run your fingers through your hair and it holds the exact shape that you desire. It keeps my hair really nice, wavy, and not totally psychotic. And it’s good for your hair.

This is just one of my favorites, if not my favorite perfume, and I use it all the time. I’ve been wearing it for seven or eight years. I don’t know how to really describe it. I would hesitate to call it a heavy scent, and I would hesitate to call it a light scent. I’m sure it has floral notes in it, and I think it has musky notes in it, but I’m not really sure, which is why I love it so much.

I wear checkered platform Vans, and I have for the past ten years. They’re what I wear every day, and I order two pairs at a time. When one gets dirty, I can just put the next one on. I really love them and can’t wear anything else, which is difficult because it means that I had to sacrifice my love of stripes. Before this I was always in stripes, so it’s been a weird exchange. I can’t wear a lot of pattern on top.

I can’t drink flat water. I’m like a child. It makes me so sick in my head. I’m sure it’s in my imagination, but I don’t like it. So I always drink sparkling water, and right now, it’s Bubly. I don’t mind any flavor, really. I don’t love the mojito flavor, but other than that, I’m pretty open.

I wear one of these every day. I’m sure that people who don’t know me well think I wear the same clothes all the time, but I love a uniform. And right now my uniform consists of a clean one of these black tank tops pretty much every single day. I have the cropped version as well for when I’m wearing high-waisted pants. I don’t wear a bra with them; I think that’s probably what I love the most about them. They’re also a really classic cut, they’re easy, and they come in packs.

Baby wipes are amazing and great, and once your child kind of grows out of baby-wipe age and you no longer have them around, it’s a very sad day. I always have a wipe at the ready and use them for everything. I also carry Handi Wipes around because they get stains out of things more easily than baby wipes. Baby wipes are getting more and more natural and organic as we progress in life, and it’s taking away their stain-killing abilities.

Again, I am not flavor-specific with my beverages, and I’ll drink any kombucha. I tend to be very anxious and my stomach holds a lot of anxiety, so I get nauseous a lot. And the kombucha keeps my nausea at bay.

This is such an amazing product. It’s an exfoliant. You use it once a day before you cleanse. It’s part of a three-step method, and I just really love it. It’s the best exfoliator I’ve ever used — it’s immediately effective. Your skin looks different, but it’s not harsh. I went to Dr. Lancer’s office and became his patient and he recommended some products to me, and that’s how I found this. I’ve been using it for about seven or eight years.

We’d been working on this tarot deck, the Cat Full of Spiders Tarot Deck and Guidebook, for about three years, and a few months ago, we started talking to West Elm about doing a special-edition deck as well as a collection of accouterments that could go along with the ritual of tarot, like this candle. I was so excited; I’ve always been such a huge West Elm fan. It’s my go-to place for all things home, really.

The scent is based on a couple of scents that I love and am addicted to. This candle has now become the one that I use the most and I’m obsessed with. It has a sort of woodsy, smoky, herbaceous feel to it. It’s fresh and light, but the smokiness of it makes it feel really cozy and intoxicating. Herbaceous is the only word I can think of, but, you know, it’s not a word I use normally.
