If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. We asked Yellowstone actor Cole Hauser, who founded his own coffee company Free Rein Coffee, about the classic denim jacket, SPF-infused moisturizer, and comfortable cowboy boots he can’t live without.
I’ve probably been using this for 29, 30 years. I’d never used any other lotion or anything before that. I think my wife gave it to me because it has SPF in it. She’s always worried about me getting skin cancer because I have pretty light skin. And it’s worked. I don’t have it yet — knock on wood.
My son got me hooked on AirPods. Actually, he took them recently. I don’t even know where mine are anymore. I think he lost his and he wanted them for football pregaming, so they’ve disappeared. But the noise cancellation is amazing. I mean, think about it: I’ve been around for a while, so I remember when we had tape players and the earphones barely stuck on your head. So to have AirPods now, where they actually cancel out noise while you’re on a plane or even while you’re outside — it’s pretty amazing, the technology.
I’m usually listening to blues, country, or reggae. Those are probably my top three genres. I’ve been listening to that kind of music since I was 4 or 5 years old. It’s not so much the new country or blues or reggae. It’s more old-school.
A lot of the boots that I was wearing over the past seven years — I won’t name brands because I don’t want to be mean about their shoes, but they were not the most comfortable things in the world. But these are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever tried on. The leather they use is from Leon, Mexico, and it’s some of the softest leather I’ve ever experienced. Again, I’m not naming any boot companies, but they’re not really using real leather, they’re using pleather. When you’re riding, you want to wear a tight boot — but with real leather, it actually expands over time and the boot ends up molding to your foot.
They made it through a whole season. I’ve been riding for the last six months — I’ve chased people down, I’ve jumped over stuff. So they’re pretty durable. Frye did a great job with these.
I’ve been throwing a Wilson football since I was a kid. I think they’re one of the older football companies and when I was young, that’s all they had in the store. Now I throw the ball with my daughter and my son all the time. My oldest son played football in high school. He’s now in college at TCU. And my middle son, Colt, he’s playing right now in high school. He plays offensive line. And my daughter plays flag football. So we all love football.
I can’t really run anymore. I’m getting too old to run. I got a bad hip, a bad knee, a bad ankle. So anything that’s low impact like the Peloton, I like. And I actually like real road biking and mountain biking as well. In the last few months, I’ve been riding horses, so that’s been the workout. But now that I’m back in Florida, I’ll certainly be road biking, or getting on the Peloton if it’s too hot out.
The denim jacket, that’s something I’ve worn since I was 14 or 15 years old. I just like the look of a jean jacket. I have one that’s probably 27 years old now. It has holes everywhere and it’s been worn and dragged in the dirt and all kinds of good stuff. I think a denim jacket is different than pants — you’re not destroying it in the same way that typically you are with a pair of jeans. So it’s lasted a long time.
I go pretty much everywhere with it. I keep it in my back pocket every day. That and some toothpicks.
I like a dark roast, and with American Dirt, they basically roasted it to a place where it was on fire. It tastes like nothing I’ve had in the past. I mean, I love many of our other roasts, Texas Pecan and Branded, too — my wife drinks a lot of that one. Each and every one of them tastes different and they’re all special in their own right. But American Dirt is my favorite.
In the morning, I’ll have three cups of coffee. I do a pour-over and I grind my own coffee, so it’s about as fresh as it gets. I’m actually having some right now.
