What Tamara Mellon Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair, but the hand sanitizer and the electric toothbrush. We asked Jimmy Choo co-founder and creator of her own eponymous line Tamara Mellon about the eye mask, yoga pants, and probiotic she can’t live without.

I’d never used a sleep mask when I first got this, but it’s really soft and feels amazing on the face. I love to sleep in complete darkness; I’m always in a battle with my fiancé because he likes to sleep with the shade up, but I want to fall asleep in a black hole. This is how I compromise. The silk also has this nice squishy padded quality that’s comfortable on the face.

I just love the texture of this stuff. I don’t like to use anything too heavy on my face, and this will give me a bit of color in spite of my pale Irish roots. Plus it has sunscreen built in.

The most comfy yoga pants ever. I found them when I was looking for the perfect leggings to work out in, but now I’ll just wear them as soon as I get home. I wear them on the weekends, and I’ll even wear them in the office if I’m in a rush. If you’re in a sweater and military boots, they look great even when you’re not working out. I have maybe 20 or 30 pairs of only black ones.

I’ve been obsessed with Diptyque candles for years, and for the same amount of time I’ve been using the same scent: Baies. I must be going on ten years now. Baies is like a tree of berries. I first got hooked when I was living in London, and there’s just something about the smell of this that is addictive. I probably have a drawer full of all different sizes.

Being English, I drink a lot of tea all day long. It’s just my culture. I even have an electric water kettle in my bathroom. That’s maybe too much information. When I’m getting ready, I just flip the kettle on, put my AirPods in for meditation, and lie down on the daybed in the bathroom. I like this one because I just found it on Amazon and it’s cheap and chic. And I just really like the flavor of that green tea.

I have a thing about water. I think people who drink water out of plastic bottles shipped around the world are drinking water that’s been in the bottle for months. It’s gotten hot and the plastic has seeped into the water, and I’m sure that can’t really be good for you. This is California spring water, and it’s plastic that doesn’t have the cancer-causing chemicals. It’s local, and it tastes like it. I’ll use it in my kettle to make tea, too.

My notebook is nothing really special. It’s from Staples, but I like the size and the paper and the fact that it has an elastic band. I always have it with me to write things down or else I’ll forget.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a bit obsessed with organization and cleaning. I put everything in the packing cubes by category, so when I get somewhere I don’t unpack; I just put the cubes in my closet. They’re see-through, too, so I don’t have to rummage through them to find what I’m looking for. And then when I leave, I can just put the packs back in the luggage, so there’s no need to repack. They’re a real time-saver.

I wear these for working out, and what I like about them is how easy they are to put on. It’s like pulling on a sock. You don’t have to deal with the laces or anything.

My eyes get really dry from staring at a laptop or phone all day, so rather than use eye drops from Visine that take out the red (which is actually very damaging), I’ll use these instead to hydrate them.

I’m absolutely obsessed with them. I use the headphones for talking on the phone often and also to meditate. I’ll listen to the Calm app and do a breathing exercise. I’ll even fall asleep in them at night, listening to a sleep meditation or audiobook. It’s really not a problem for me to fall asleep in them — I’ll wake up and see that they’ve fallen out, though.

I’m fascinated by the microbiome and how important it is for health. The Seed probiotic helps restore the flora in your microbiome, and I take three of them a day. I’ve been doing it for about two years now, and I do feel a difference. I can see it in my skin because bad skin is often related to your gut, so when doctors prescribe topical treatments or antibiotics, those can really make the situation worse.

I actually switched from the Lord Jones tincture to the capsules to increase my CBD intake. I’ll take 25 milligrams in the morning and then 50 at night before bed in a hot bath. I find that it helps with my anxiety. It reduces inflammation and makes you feel calmer, too. I went to the MOCA annual benefit the other night and took one beforehand. I can sometimes have some social anxiety, but it helped me stay so much calmer through the whole thing.

I came up with the idea for this bag when I saw a 1950s photograph of an American woman walking down the street in Florence. The bag looked so modern I just wanted it, so we crated a new version of it. We’ve used the best-quality leather and given it this big shape for easy functionality. You can wear it three different ways, and since I carry the kitchen sink with me, as you can tell from my list, I love a big bag.
