With negotiators hard at work in Geneva trying to bring humanitarian aid to Syria, peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi announced on Sunday that the Syrian government will allow women and children to leave the besieged city of Homs immediately. Al Jazeera also reports that the government is asking the opposition to “provide names of other civilians who wish to leave the area.” Meanwhile, opposition delegate Monzer Akbik said that the government had promised to respond to the question of letting supplies into the rebel-held city, where he says hundreds urgently need food and medicine. Syria’s Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi responded that an aid convoy is “ready to enter Homs” and the government is just coordinating security efforts to ensure its safety. Hopefully this will actually happen.
