What Tierra Whack (Still) Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts, like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. Back in 2021, we spoke with musician Tierra Whack about the snow boots and card game she can’t live without. Three years later, we asked Whack — who recently partnered with Cotopaxi for its Music for Good campaign — about the lavender-scented hand sanitizer, coconut water, and smart glasses that made the cut this time.

What she still can’t live without

I’ve been taking ashwagandha for years now. I swear by it. It helps with the stress and anxiety and calms my nerves, my brain. I take it as needed. When I have really busy or hectic days when I have a lot on my plate, I’m like, Yeah, I’m gonna take some of this. Gaia Herbs is my favorite brand. It’s gluten-free, all-natural. I put some friends on it too.

And some new favorites

I always have one of these on me. It’s so, so important to have ’cause they actually work. I get dressed and sometimes I’m being greedy and I’m eating, and then I spill stuff on my outfit. Every bag has to have a Tide to Go pen.

It’s so clutch. I always wanna stand out and wear some bright colors. Every time I leave the house, I’m getting compliments. People are looking like, Yo, what’s that?, because of the vibrant colors. It’s like a suitcase without wheels; it has so many different compartments. I always hide things for myself. I love that you can buckle it up, and if you wanna go hiking, you’re good. You can go anywhere with this bag. It’s very cozy.

It’s an acquired taste, but once I started drinking it, it is just so refreshing. It has zero sugar, and it’s low in carbs and calories. It’s more hydrating than water. I can literally feel the difference in my body. I play basketball a lot, so I found drinking it also helps to decrease muscle cramping. I do two or three bottles, or I’ll get the really big bottle and just drink that throughout the whole day. And I love that it’s actually the natural color of the coconut: pink.

I’m getting on and off flights all the time and traveling and being in cramped spaces. It’s good to keep with me so I can avoid the muscle cramping. I use it on my back and calves a lot and sometimes my quads. I’m trying to stretch more ,and when I have the FitPulse, it encourages me to stay loose and open up my muscles.

Growing up, Sesame Street was one of my favorite shows. I had every character on there. Then I learned that the creator saw that children in underserved communities were at a disadvantage when it came to schooling. He created the show to help prepare and educate the youth. But it was done in a way where it’s not like: No, don’t do that, or This is bad. And of course, all the Muppets look cool, and they’re colorful and vibrant. It just was my style. And then we got music in there, too, and it was a lesson in every episode. To this day, it’s still one of my favorites. I was in the thrift shop in Philly a while ago and saw these patches, and I’m like, I gotta take these home. I’m planning to put all the patches on a vest or jacket or something. I just gotta collect more.

Anybody who knows me knows that I love smart glasses. Just press one button and they capture everything. It’s mind-blowing. It feels so futuristic. I’m not the biggest fan of having my phone out. When I’m out having fun or enjoying myself, I’m not the one who’s gonna capture everything. But with the glasses, since I’m already wearing them, it’s nothing to just press a button and be like, Yo, let me get this moment. And then it goes right to your phone. I always have them on me just in case I want to capture something.

I have three pairs: pink, blue, and black. It’s good for every day. As a musician and artist, I always have to have those on and readily available for me in case I wanna vibe out. Sometimes my producers will send me beats while I’m out and about, and I throw those on and listen. Or maybe I’m somewhere and kids are loud and you gotta just block out the noise — get in the zone, you know? I always have my headphones with me.

A good friend of mine got me the Oura Ring for my birthday. I’ve been loving it because it tracks all the data that I need to know about myself. As we get older, we gotta listen to our bodies, so I’m tracking my sleep, my readiness, my stress, my daily activity. The body doesn’t lie. So the ring just helps me to see what adjustments I need to make and how I can better my everyday life to be the most comfortable.

I’ve been through so many hand sanitizers, but this one is my favorite. The lavender and aloe smells so good. It’s so refreshing. I’m just trying to stay healthy and keep everything clean. Soap and water isn’t always available, so I try to always have some hand sanitizer on me.

I was scrolling, and I was like, Well, I’ve been wanting to write more, so if I get a cool notebook, it’ll influence me to write, you know? I love, once again, the colors. I started reading some cool books, and I’ve been journaling about everything that I’ve been learning. I’ve been packing this every day with my books. I have my little pen, and when I get time, I’ll sit and read and write everything that sticks out to me. It feels good. I’m creating a good habit. It’s all about the discipline because we don’t always have a person to talk to, but journaling has really been helping me. I’ll reread it to just make sure it’s really sticking. It’s little adjustments I’m making to better myself and continue being a student and learning every day. I can’t wait ’til all these pages are full.
